“Hiraeth” Short film

Queer culture has learnt to thrive in the urban, but it is not where it always originated – it is where it migrated to. “Hiraeth” is a film about the intersectionality of queer identity and rurality, set against the panoramic backdrop of Llangollen in North Wales. Tensions rise surrounding morality and tradition when a young boy is confronted by his sexuality - putting to the test his relationship with the environment that has been a constant sanctuary, yet which has simultaneously trapped him his whole life.

Working as the Director of photography on this project, my aim was to nail the visual identity and tone of the project following key references such as “Gods own country” Planning shot lists and equipment from pre production, though to lighting and composing each shot on set, to postproduction grading.
